Laments in Midlothian (I of V)

A Lament for Jemel Roberson (I)

Jemel Roberson and his son, Tristan. (Avontea Boose via AP)

What does she think about him?
She has not the heart to tell the world, at first
The grief is still too near.

But when asked about their nine month old child,
She brightens with a smile, and she shares.

What do they say about him?
They must speak, though grief is near.
The stories unfold, in snippets they’re told,
The things that he held dear.

They make sure to mention his work for the church,
There are certainly words about that.
Hands that held that little child close,
Played organ keys too, led praisers to clap.
A frame so impressive, and heart so protective,
That loved ones always felt safe.

Be sure they say this is a tragedy,
But that doesn’t do justice.

The question,

will justice be done?

A lament for Jemel Roberson,
Who can no longer hold his son.
